I was wondering if someone could help me learn the basics of Photoshop. I really would like to be able to have some real fun with it

It depends solely on your definition of fun. If you want to use it to produce random pictures without much effort, go help yourself with the filter selections. Nothing you produce that way is very likely to be liked by others, but a few filters can actually come in handy every now and then if used properly.

If you want to use it to learn how to draw or something, then you shouldn't be using photoshop, but a pencil and some copymachine paper or something to practice with. I can hook you up with practice material if that's the case.

Otherwise, just search the web. A simple Google search for "Photoshop Tutorials" should give you thousands upon thousands of hits. Or as the main character of Far Cry would have said; "It's a jungle out there!"
"Stephen Wolfram is the creator of Mathematica and is widely regarded as the most important innovator in scientific and technical computing today." - Stephen Wolfram

here are some beginner tutorials to get you started http://www.boonism.com/index_01.php?page=ps_tutorials

Just do a couple of them and sometimes just try different stuff than what the tutorials say (for example try different values if your working with filters) to understand exactly what kind of effect a certain step has so you know what you will be able to do with it later on.
