Ok reason I think god is not real ... and if u disagree the bible was written by humans so dont use it as proof. First of all every holy book / crest / statue / picture etc was manually formed by a human so how dont you not know that person was just being creative. Also people miss people and want them to be remebered after death ... what a good exscuse to have them not be forgotten and say that they arnt dead they are still living with use ... others have been in the same situation but havent became gods. Such as RObin hood, shakespeare, King Arthur, and more. And for the random healings, if u think about it your body really cant work effiecently under pressure. When people let it go at ease by praying etc they arnt thinkin negetive so that might enable them to heal, most of the time tho they die right after they get the random healing. More Ideas its early and im still kinda sleepy. =\

...I really hate these threads...I will discuse this topic w/ anyone who really wants help in it and is willing to learn or at least be open minded insted of a dick about it, but these threads get way out of hand...I personaly believe that God is there helping us...anyway if you want help in the topic then PM me I'll be happy to talk to you, but like I said...these threads are useless...

Returning to the topic, there are plenty of other reasons to believe that there is some sort of higher being controlling things. For instance, if you look back on the evolution of human beings you'll find that it had to have taken a great deal of "luck" to have even gotten to where we are today. Our ancestors could have been wiped out of existance countless times. It took so much luck, in fact, that the majority of religious people find it hard to even grasp that some sort of higher being wasn't involved. Others yet believe in the Adam and Eve events. I myself find it hard to believe that we just popped into existance one day. There's way too much proof on the side of evolution. However, I also don't think that we could have come this far without some sort of "Divine Poking and Prodding". There's always the chance that it was all just merely luck, though.

As for believing that deceased people going to "Heaven", I think it's just a way ease the pain of the loss. If you just told a child that the person who died was just no longer alive, gone, slam-bam-dead, Poof!, All Gone!...It could be emotionally scarring. When my Grandfather died it helped to know that he was going to Heaven. It wasn't as painful to know that he was still looking over me. I think a good term would be "Spiritually Alive".

And as for the Bible...? Yeah, that's just a good peice of fiction, IMHO. Great reading material.

I think it is funny that when people are trying to "preach the good word" they just say "Shut up and listen and don't be a dick about it, because I am right and you are wrong and I am just trying to make you think the same way as me and bow down to a man in the sky who opresses people and makes them worship him. Oh, and he says you can't have fun, because it makes the losers of the world feel bad that they can't."

The "shut the fuck up" mentality comes from people refusing to accept or even listen to points made from the opposition. At a certain point, people get tired of hearing the same arguments over and over again.

"Man made it up."
"Man made up those stories."
"Man made up Heaven."
"Man made religious images."
(That's the same argument.)
"I've never seen God."
(That's just ignorance. You can't argue against anything using ignorance...)

But at the same time, if someone did make a valid point, the religious person probably wouldn't respond logically. Afterall, religion doesn't work around the mentallity of being logical.

I do however believe in a god and in a religion, but I refuse to preach it to random people and call them close minded ass holes just because they can't think up a good point to defend the way that they think.

If presented consistantly with one or two replies to any situation and an almost constant, "I don't believe you because you can't prove it," I'll gladly call someone close minded.

I can't because I do believe in God, Bob, but I am just arguing against the way some people choose to preach.

The thing that I believe in is that there is a God, and some sort of afterlife, both of which are shrouded in mystery, no one can ever know what these two things really are. The only way that you should live your life is by two guidelines, have fun and don't hurt other people in any way. If you are doing something that isn't helping other people, and it isn't fun, you shouldn't be doing it. I could go into further detail, but it is really a simple concept, and I think that any logical man up in the sky would agree that people should enjoy themselves in life and help other people to accomplish the same goal.

If someone is close minded, then you can damn well tell them they are close minded if you want. There's no reason, moral or not, not to do so.

True... but it doesn't matter, because they have the freedom to think how they want. You also, as you demonstrated, have the freedom to call them a close minded asshole.

A friend of mine told me told me this a while back. Let me give you some backround information about him. His mom hates him, his dad hates him. They both told him that they hated him. They called the cops on him, they made up stories to get him into juve, they've put him in mental insitutes when he's the nicest kid i know and has nothing wrong with him. They dont beat him, they could if he wasnt stronger than them. The parents are fucking losers. Every day he talks to himself, asking himself if this is the day hes going to kill his parents, and then himself. He always cries because he wont kill himself, and hes got nothing to live for. His parents love his brother, but not him. His brother smokes pot/smokes crack and does all sorts of drugs.

He used to be a big believer, i asked him why doesnt he ever believe anymore.. He told me this:

I used to go to chuch every sunday, and mass at night, i used to prey every day, and try not to sin. When i needed one thing, and that was to get my parents to love me... He wouldnt do it. He wont let them love me. He wont let them understand that im not a bad kid... Thats when it stopped. I stopped believeing. I realized that god isnt real, if he was why would he make us so fucked up? If we are supposed to be in his image, then he must be a fucked up guy.

Everyone trys to get me to believe again. Its not going to work. Want to know why?

If I stick my hand in the fire. It fucking burns right? Im not gonna do it again. If somone tells me to do it again, and I'll get a magical pony, fuck that. It fucking burns, and I wont get this magical pony, ive done this before and Ive gotten shit.

About your friends, of us being in gods image thing. remeber that when we clone our selves it suffers more diseases and also lives 1/5 of our actual lifespan (maybe in the future it may diff but for now its like that) So the reason were so messed up is because we are replicas of our father is the original. By the way for your friend maybe their parents are ashamed of him because he is nice. Also The bible says somewhere that its a sin to harm youself in anyform i forgot the scripture.
Pot isnt exactly harm you all the way because you become chill also it heals ppl with either heartattack or asthma (i forget), i dun smoke but my uncles and friends do so i have alot of examples. Me and my three friends who have a bigger faith then I, are the only ones that dont smoke out of the friends i know. For crack yes that would be a sin cause it does harm that i know of but then again all drugs / plants / Herbs harm you and does somethin good for you (but thats anoter subject). Also even tho im telling you these things your friend doesnt need a lecture on becoming cristian. He needs a friend and when he told you thats what he was calling out for.
