If you haven't heard of BMW's April Fools Day tradition, then shame on you!
More or less every year, they take out a full-page ad in newspapers (might only be British ones), telling the reader about their latest invention. The thing is, these ads look exactly like normal BMW ads.
Some of their crazy schemes have been:
- The "Toot and Calm Horn" (after Tutankhamun), which calms rather than aggravates other drivers, so reducing the risk of road rage.
- MINI cars being used in upcoming space missions to Mars.
- IDS ("Insect Deflector Screen") Technology - using elastic solutions to bounce insects off the windscreen as you drive.
- SHEF ("Satellite Hypersensitive Electromagnetic Foodration") Technology, which sees the car's GPS systems synchronise with home appliances to perfectly cook a meal for the instant you return home.
- Marque-Wiper - mini-wipers for each exterior "BMW" logo coming as standard on all future models.
- "Uninventing the wheel" to counter the "EU ban" on right-hand drive cars

Yesterday's was Slow Cameras:
Quote:
Police chiefs have warned that slow driving has become almost as big a hazard as speeding on Britain's roads today. In response to this the Government is set to announce that by next Spring Slow Cameras will have been installed in every UK city. This new traffic invigorating measure works in the same way as speed cameras by taking your picture if your speed falls below a certain level.
After months of experimentation, BMW engineers have devised a solution to avoid detection ZIP (Zoom Impression Pixels).
ZIP is a pixel-based coating that covers the entire exterior of the car. If you are travelling below the speed limit in range of a Slow Camera, sensors around the car detect the camera and the pixels immediately become blurred. This gives the impression of higher velocity and the Slow Camera is fooled into thinking the car is travelling at the correct speed.
