Duh. Sputnik (SPOOT neek) (CPyTH|/|K (in the closest approximation of cyrilic I can get in non-cyrilic characters) in Russian) is a Soviet Satelite (and the first in the Sputnik series of satelites) that was put in low oribit and circled the globe many times, broadcasting it's tracking beacon. I don't remember if it did anything else.

Wetwired is right but who ever chose the first option is WRONG. :P Take the look at the spelling. HEhe I purposly spelled satelite wrong. :P So the right answer is "None of the above"

is this question for the first thing ever to enter the orbit of the earth or been sent to it or whatever? if it is the answer is: a dog.... because the russians sent a dog to space but they were dumbasses and forgot to goldplate the craft so the dog came back dead from electricution or something
