[RMVX] Tough one. >:) Swimming.

A simple system i made, i just pretty much do the following. Conditional branch (Swimming learned = on) then through change sprite into (blah) else Exit event pretty much something like that, the problem is it needs to be on EVERY tile. and when he comes back to land. it just changes him back. Yeah, and it says VX by the thing there.... (prefixes ftw?)

Just set it when you touch the water to make an event set off a few other events that allow you to "swim." Also, when RPG Maker VX complies the file, you will see far less lag then when you're testing it. Also, it is suggested that you lead to another area with water that is "swimmable (if swimmable is a word)" so that you don't have to deal with the lag.
