Discription on who will battle in the Zelaron Melee Tournament #1 Bracket 2003!!! !!!

I think there should be a small description on who is (or will be) in battle!! The pros and cons on who is to battle so that everyone would know who is up against. For instance

measuring in at 5 feet, 2 inches. Armed with Fire Flowers, FLUDD the Water Pack, Super Jumping abilities and the hippest mustache this side of Tom Selleck! The Italian Pipe-Cleaner, The Koopa Crusher, The Short-Stacked Hero of The Mushroom Kingdom

(the way raz gave a good description) did he miss anything?? Then add it. But what is his flaws?? What would make him lose??

All those who where picked in the “Zelaron Melee Tournament #1 Bracket!!!” should have a description here and everyone could read this thread before proceding to the tournament!! Remember…..

If I don't see every active member participating in this as if his or her life depended on it, I will personally hunt each one of you down and kill you until you die from it. Or something to that effect.

Dude, I'm just giving people a basic description of the characters. I'm not going to point out all of the characters flaws and advantages, because that would inhibit good arguments. I give a basic description and allow the members to figure out the fight for themselves.

Isn't it about time to change to the next battle?

Battle #1 still has about 2 hours of life left, so I'm gonna hold off for the time being. Plus, Titus, Shinto and I need to deliberate.

Can you try posting pictures of the characters that are battling? I don't know half of them so looks will probably decide most for me.

Well, !K_A!, don't base your judegement on looks. Start to explain why you think someone would win, not just that they would win... As a judge, I want to base the winner on arguement, not popularity.

If you're going to make it where people have to type a paragraph explaining why the character would win, you aren't gonna have many participants. I like the idea of just having polls for them all, and let reasons be optional.

No, which is what separates us from the other sites that do this. Without some type of explanation, your post will be worthless... Its not that hard to say why you are picking someone, even if it is because, "he looks cooler"... Although I don't take those seriously, it is still a reason nonetheless...

Well if I don't know anything about either of the characters I have to base my answer on something.

No, as proven by the solid snake VS. Rikimaru(sp) battle. Rikimaru is winning, but I'm sure more people have heard of and like solid snake.

Exactly, Titus... the thing I like about this character battle is that it's more involved. You give a good reason why that character should win, not, as Titus said, because they "look cooler." It's about the overall ability, attitude, background of that character and why that character is supremely better than the opponent. This is why this is being done in the first place, it's a step up, not a copy.

Rikimaru is winning nothing as it stands, KA. There won't be a winner until I see more participation from you people.

KA, you're completely missing the point. If we just base a character's win on votes, then these battles boil down to nothing but popularity contests. The entire purpose of these tournaments is to stray from that whole premise entirely. We're trying to bring more meaningful activity to this forum by requesting that people actually post worthwhile content instead of the same old bullshit that gets posted here every day.

If you're too busy to take the whole 5 fucking minutes it would take to explain why you think a particular character would win, then I truly feel sorry for you. You must be so bogged down with designing new forms of nuclear weaponry and curing cancer that something as miniscule as actually giving your posts relevance just doesn't appear on your priorities radar. We all know you've got important business to attend to in the Chat Forum, so we won't blame you for your ignorance.

thats the whole point...i understand what K_A was saying and infact that was INFACT what I was going to do.....if i dont know someone i would just judge by pic. for instance about solid snake and the other dude.....i don't even KNOW the other dude, i would of picked solid snake (that game was just beautiful, i loved it) when i read about the battle of solid snake and the other dude, i have to agree that the "other dude" would win because of his stealth even with that Samus vs. Predator, i only knew the Predator and when raz's explained Samus "protective" crap, i have to say that Samus would win because of her discription

Now that is the reason why i made this thread, for everybody to say what they know about what character, example, if i only know solid snake but dont know the other guy (that ninja guy right??) i would post something like "ok i know solid snake only because of that game metal gear, i know that he has stinger, socom, and other cool gadgets, can some one tell me what the other guy has??"
then another person would say (if he knows) what the other person has!!
then another person (if he really wants to) can give a better discription on solid snake better then the first person

...that way people like me and K_A will know who the hell is fighting and what there capabilities are :-D

i agree with raz because just doing a poll would only win with popularity. this is indeed a unique way of doing battle.....something you can only find here at ZELARON,Keep up the good work Forum Leaders (who even made this cool idea :-)

As I said, I am not going to give the people here the full rundown on a character. That completely defeats the purpose of these battles. If I give the members all the information I have, then all someone has to do is quote my description and use it as their argument. The point here is to be inventive and original with one's arguments, not have the whole match handed to them on a platter. I'll try to make my descriptions of the entrants more detailed, but I'm not gonna list everything they are capable of.

One of the reasons I go about it like this, is because I can see a number of ways that almost all of the matches could have gone differently. I can think of strategies for every one of the battles that could have given Mario, Link and Jinx the victory, and could have made it absolutely impossible for Mog to win. If I start giving ultra-specific descriptions of what each combatant is capable of, then it doesn't require people to think creatively. I'm just handing people the arguments that I would have used if I was participating. Do you understand what I'm saying? I want people to start thinking "outside the box" in terms of these battles. If I give super-detailed descriptions, people will just regurgitate what I've posted. I don't want that.

Exactly, and next tournament might be a little different in that I would like to give Raziel the chance to actually take an active participation.

It is up the members to find out what they can. Perfect example was the Jinx vs. Auron Battle. I knew nothing about Jinx, and after hearing some of his qualities, I still thought Auron was the better man. If a Battle goes on without people defending their choice, there will be some cases where the weaker may win. After all, this isn't a contest on who probably would win, it is a contest on who can show who will probably win and why they think that. The more convincing the better obviously.
